Chinatown Singapore on a humid and wet Sat afternoon

Feel like acting as a tourist in my home country, and trying to appreciate what a tourist would see  here today. So strapping my good old camera, put on my walking boots, a bottle of water and took a 2km troll from Chinatown Singapore to Raffle city.

CumulusPro Launches Cloud BPM Platform

CumulusPro Launches Cloud BPM Platform

5 February 2016 – Start-up CumulusPro has thrown all these elements into the mix and recently announced a new BPM platform, Straatos, that could be indicative of the way transaction-centric capture and  workflow solutions will look in the future. Founded in 2012 by former Dicom Group and Kofax executive Giulio Battistini, CumulusPro first came to market with a browser-based scanning application, which was followed up by a complementary mobile capture app. Then, late last year, it began introducing Straatos to its growing number of  partners worldwide.

How Embedded Capture Keeps Customers Longer on your Website

(by Roger Vial, VP Product Management CumulusPro) Oct 23, 2015

Embedded capture is a great way to improve customer retention and it’s easy to implement on your website. Essentially, embedded capture allows visitors of your website to scan a paper document from their scanner directly from your website, without having to use third party software. Once the document is inside the scanner, the scanning process is completed online and the visitors do not have to use software or other tools to complete the scan. This is often implemented by banks and websites that require scanned documents from their customers.

How embedded capture keeps customers longer on your website

1. The user never has to leave the website

It’s such an automatic and quick process to capture a scan using embedded capture that the user never has to leave the website. They will be able to complete the scan quickly and efficiently, without losing interest, getting distracted or having to do the scanning with third party tools.

2. No file format, image quality or technical details necessary

When scanning with third party software, there are numerous complications that a user can run into. This includes issues with the file format, the image quality or having to use specific software in order to accomplish the scan. With embedded capture, there are no technical details to have to worry about.

3. The scanning process is an easy, guided process

Embedded capture can be integrated into a pre-existing page. This gives the website owner control over where the process will take place and it can be positioned on the page next to content and other features. Additionally, the scanning process should be incredibly easy. In fact, it should work in just 3 simple steps:

  1. Click the scan button
  2. Preview the pages
  3. Submit the scanned pages

4. The website owner has control over the details

Embedded capture provides the website owner with control over the details. This includes the quality of the image, the file format and how the document will be submitted.

Embedded capture keeps customers longer on your website by providing a simple straightforward way for them to scan documents. Scanning documents is a must in many industries and if you need to collect files from your customers or visitors, embedded capture makes the process much easier.

What do you think about embedded capture? Is it something you (will) use to keep customers on your website and/or make submission of documents easier?

4 Essential Features for Mobile Capture in Document Processing

(by Roger Vial, VP Product Management CumulusPro) Nov 2, 2015

Mobile Capture enables users to capture documents using the cameras on their smartphones and upload those documents to a company’s backend processing system.

Limitations of Camera Apps

While camera apps can take nice photos, they have  limitations when used in Document Processing:

  • Objects surrounding the document appear in the image, such as pencils and table tops.
  • Aligning the document correctly and keep the document in focus while taking the picture.
  • Good quality images have large file sizes and user submitting a file tend to reduce the size to speed up the uploading time. In many cases this reduces the image quality to the extend the document becomes hard to read and this can delay document processing.

A good Mobile Capture app should overcome the limitations of camera apps to improve the quality of images, which helps to reduce processing costs and time.

4 Essential Features for Mobile Capture in Document Processing

CumulusPro’s Mobile Capture solution offers the following features to help improve image quality and document processing:

1. Document border/page auto detect

Unwanted items surrounding the document, such as pencils and tabletops, are removed from the image before capturing.

2. Auto capture

Automatically detects when an image is in focus, and captures the image without the need to press a button. Users can focus on holding the phone steady and let the app do the rest.

3. Preset image quality and file size settings

Allow settings to be preset according to the company’s requirements and managed centrally, so that users do not need to adjust the settings each time a document is captured.

4. Direct integration with the company’s backend processing system

Direct integration prevents images from being accessed and manipulated outside the mobile app. This adds an additional layer of security to ensure that images remain under the company’s control and ensures the quality of the image.

A good Mobile Capture app allows users to easily capture documents, ensures that companies receive good quality images which will help eliminate long processing costs and time, and enables companies to maintain control of the images captured by users.

What are your thoughts on Mobile Capture? Do you agree with those essential features or what features are important to you?

Making the Case of Capture to Cloud: How Cloud Based Automated Accounts Payable reduces Upfront cost and increases ROI

(By Roger Vial, VP Product Management, CumulusPro)Nov 8, 2015

In a recent survey by AIIM.Org, 15% of organisations cited low Return on Investment (ROI) as a reason they haven’t implemented an Accounts Payable (AP) Automation Solution, while 10% cited a prohibitive up front cost.

Concerns about ROI and up front cost can arise from three issues related to on-premise solutions:

Software licensing is a high upfront cost investment.
Complications of software setup run up the implementation costs.
Configuration and the exception handling process slow down implementation.
Cloud based Accounts Payable (AP) Automation, such as the CumulusPro Invoice+, provides an alternative that does not require a huge upfront cost while increasing a company’s ROI.

How Cloud Based Automated AP reduces Upfront cost and increases ROI
1. Pre-Configure Processes
Cloud based Accounts Payable processes are pre-configured allowing for easy sign up, and benefit immediately from the results. In many cases this covers 80% of an AP Automation solution’s requirements. Exceptions can be handled in the previous process until the company feels comfortable with the new process and then the exceptions can be moved to the Cloud. This will help to reduce cost and gain efficiency in processing.

2. Subscription and transaction cost
Cloud based solutions are paid by subscription and transaction cost rather than lump sum. A Cloud based AP Automation is typically and largely based on a transactional cost per invoice; hence, avoiding investing a large sum on software licenses. Pay only for what is used. If the solution proofs to be impractical, the subscription can be canceled and further cost stops immediately. The benefit is a much lower up front cost and an ROI starting from the first month of use or on every document processed. In short, you pay as you go.

3. Beneficial for Low Volume
Low volumes, even if they are less interesting in an on-premise solution, are more profitable with Cloud applications, because of the low initial investment and maintenance costs. Also, the vendor maintains the platform, saving the need for a company to build up their own expertise or resources to maintain a complex solution. With less expenditure, the company can reap the same benefits as large corporations do in AP Automation. Furthermore, cost is per document, so the cost benefit is immediately realized.

4. Ready to Use Infrastructure
The infrastructure, hardware and software is pre-configured and ready to use. The start-up requires a very limited initial investment . This also saves the troubles of defining a process and handling every exception.

In summary, Cloud based Accounts Payable Automation takes away the hurdles of high upfront investments and ensures an ROI very early in the usage, thus give Small and Medium Business the opportunity to benefit from AP Automation.

Watch this video! How a web capture application connects to Google Drive-The Enterprise way

Pretty amazing how this Cloud solution company, CumulusPro has made it easy to configure a Google Drive connectivity using a cloud based admin tool and; even the idea that all their web capture applications can share the connectivity and configuration. In fact, I simply adore the concept (IF this would be similar to connect to other business application connectivities), really makes […]
